Belvoir Vale Surgery, Bottesford 6.30pm-8.30pm Thursday
There will be a clinician session and nursing session running with appointment availability at an increased level to accommodate the same level of appointments previously offered.
The last Monday clinic will take place on 19 November 2018.
We will assess the level of uptake over the coming months.
Many thanks for your kind co-operation.
As there are two sites in Bottesford we will refer to the practice as The Wellby Practice with the site name as Belvoir Vale or Welby Bottesford, the other locations are known as Harlaxton and Waltham.
You will notice some changes e.g. The Welby Practice header on letters, etc.
You will be able to book appointments with GPs, ANP, NP, Nurses and HCAs across all the sites.
Asthma - all asthma patients are offered regular reviews by the practice nurse and then referred to the doctor if necessary. If asthmatic, it is advisable to be vaccinated against flu and pneumonia.
Contraception - we offer a contraceptive services including the pill and injectable contraceptives. In addition, we provide the ‘morning after pill’. These services are, of course, provided confidentially to women of all ages.
Diabetes - most of our diabetic patients are managed within the practice. You will receive a detailed check-up every 6-12 months, seeing first the practice nurse then the doctor. Do make sure that you have a flu and pneumonia vaccination.
Flu and Pneumonia Vaccinations - recommended for all patients over the age of 60 as well as any patient with heart disease, hypertension, kidney disease or respiratory problems (including asthma or smoking-attributable problems).
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Osteoporosis - HRT can enhance quality of life and can also help in conditions such as osteoporosis. We are happy to discuss the pros and cons of HRT. Osteoporosis can be a serious condition which is largely preventable. It is particularly important that patients who have suffered a fragility fracture* consider the options available in order to prevent further weakness of their bones. HRT is only one option; there is a choice of other treatments for osteoporosis. Please arrange to see a doctor if you are concerned.
*A fragility fracture is one that results from mechanical forces that would not ordinarily cause fracture in a healthy young adult. This is sometimes quantified as forces equivalent to a fall from a standing height or less.
Ischemic Heart Disease - this deserves a special mention as it can cause suffering and can lead to premature death. Our practice is committed to offering patients ‘best practice’ in this area. If you have heart disease or have a strong family history of heart disease, raised blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes, talk to your doctor or practice nurse. If you need advice about lifestyle or help with stopping smoking, we can help with this too.
Maternity Care - if you are planning on having a baby, do come and talk to us about matters concerning the future pregnancy. Once you are pregnant, your care is shared between your doctor, midwife and hospital.
Men’s Health - men often seem to miss out on healthcare. If you have any worries about your health, particularly blood pressure, cardiac, prostate, testicle or erectile difficulties, don’t suffer in silence – call in and see a doctor.
Paediatric Surveillance - in conjunction with your health visitor, all doctors in the practice are specially qualified to provide your child with regular check-ups.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases - we now offer a sexual health clinic for the younger generation, where you can discuss any concerns regarding sexual health or contraception with a trained member of staff. We offer testing for Chlamydia (the most common sexually transmitted disease), the detection of which is via a simple urine test. Also available are free condoms, booklets and information.
Tetanus and Holiday Vaccinations - all patients should be covered by tetanus. At some time in your life you should have a course of 3 tetanus vaccinations followed by a further 2 boosters at 10 year intervals. If you are in doubt, see the practice nurse who can also offer you advice about travel vaccinations which should be done at least 6 weeks before you travel. There is a charge for some vaccinations; the nurse will inform you of this.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe a very useful booklet has been published with advice and guidance to help you get the most out of your holiday. To visit please click:- http://ec.europa.eu/publications/booklets/eu_glance/86/en.pdf (this is a large document and may take a minute or two to view)
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
(Government legislation compels us to register for VAT; this may affect the fee in respect of some of these services).
